INSIDE OUR SHORTS
FRIDAY, JUNE 3
Both a Looney Tunes and a Merrie Melodies grace our screen this week: Porky Pig wants to be a bandleader at a swank nightclub but settles for washing dishes in Porky at the Crocadero (1938, dir. Frank Tashlin). Then, enjoy one of the infamous “Censored Eleven” Warner Bros. cartoons, Jungle Jitters (1938, dir. Friz Freleng).
Some live-action entertainment for you as well; first, Moe, Larry and Shemp are trapped in a haunted castle in The Ghost Speaks (1949, dir. Jules White), the 113th Columbia Pictures short starring the Three Stooges, and we’ve seen them all (there are 77 more to go, in case you’re counting). Tonight’s exciting Vitaphone offering is Ethel Sinclair and Marge La Marr in At the Seashore (1929). And speaking of excitement, Clyde Beatty, Baru the Chubby Jungle Boy, Bonga the Gorilla, and Hambone the Embarrassing Negro Stereotype all return in “The Tiger-Men’s God”, the second suspense-soaked episode of Darkest Africa (1936).
