Hey, gang! Just a brief note to let you know I'm still alive. Sort of. I actually collapsed on Saturday; I had taken a long bike ride in the sun without hydrating myself properly. Coffee and Diet Pepsi are NOT the same as water, as it turns out. Anyway, I live on to watch movies and raise hell, sometimes in that order. Two new serials came today from Restored Serials, THE GREEN HORNET STRIKES AGAIN!, the first chapter of which I liked a lot, and THE ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN AFRICA, the first chapte..... Comments

Well, I'd planned to take it easy, ride the ol' bike, maybe catch up on some recent films I hadn't seen. Instead, I get home today and I find, courtesy VCI Entertainment, a boxed set with eight Hammer Films Noir, including THE UNHOLY FOUR with Paulette Goddard(!).
I guess I'm going to be watching Hammer Films Noir this weekend. Comments

...and you whine that I only watched and blogged movies from 7 a.m. until midnight? Sheesh. Tough crowd!
Well, Friday as part of our FNF entertainment we watched MUSCLE BEACH PARTY. "That was BRUTAL" one of my compadres said at film's end. He's right. I enjoy the Beach Party films, but I've never enjoyed that one. Even Eric Von Zipper avoided this dog.
Hey, today we had an amazing colossal antique fair in our town, and for the sum total of 22 (not counting gas money), I scored ..... Comments

Wow, what a surprise! This is a terrific movie! Not "bad good" either, it's a good movie! A group of Japanese partygoers on a yacht are hit by a storm and end up on a deserted island, where they find a ship rotted by mold, no sign of the crew, and a field of mushrooms. For most of the film's running time, we get a drama as the crew fight amongst themselves and forage for something edible; for the climax, we find out what happens when the mushrooms are eaten. The film, in widescreen and color, is..... Comments

Okay, I actually thought that MYSTERY MEN OF THE MOVIES was pretty good, with some nice clips and a comprehensive overview of the great movie serial heroes of the '30s, '40s, and '50s. Kudos to me.
Next up, by request from an anonymous fan in Tennessee: ATTACK OF THE MUSHROOM PEOPLE! Yeooowww! Comments

Okay, next we’ve got a special treat from our friends at www.accomics.com. Yes, it’s In The Balcony’s Ms. Monogram 2007, the beautiful and talented Brenna Barry, starring as THE AMAZING COLOSSAL WOMAN.
A crazed one-eyed alien in a flying ship that looks like a hairdryer turns the angry, jilted podiatrist Dr. Carol Heisler into a 60-foot man-hating woman who calls herself Garganta. As the TV newsman explains, “This is the first giant woman of record to menace the stat..... Comments

“Husband like toupee on bald head. Used for cover up.”
If you think dialog like that is clever, well, Charlie Chan pictures are right up your alley. CHARLIE CHAN AT THE OLYMPICS (1937) is an okay little movie; I stayed awake, but I kept the ol’ Gravy mind occupied best I could. Some super-secret scientific device has been swiped, and Chan is off to Berlin to recover it. Oddly enough, the villains aren’t Nazis. In fact, there isn’t a swastika in sight in the picture (it’s eve..... Comments

Hey, we’ve almost reached the 12th hour! Halfway there! Cool, eh? Y’know, this would be a lot different if I were stuffed with popcorn. Sadly, that is one taste treat I can no longer eat… But I’ve lost 112 lbs. since December, so who am I to complain?
Dinner tonight, just finished, consisted of 8 ounces of salad, 6 ounces of pan-blackened catfish, and 6 ounces of green beans with garlic. Don’t kiss me.
Where were we? Oh, yeah, at the Olympics with Charlie Chan. Thank..... Comments

I must admit, I’ve never read a Nancy Drew book, so I have no idea of the faithfulness to the source material the four Bonita Granville pictures (1938-1939) were, and as I’ve already admitted, NANCY DREW, REPORTER was sheer agony to endure. So I’m happy to report that NANCY DREW, DETECTIVE is much better. When a wealthy dowager who has pledged a healthy endowment to Nancy’s school suddenly disappears, Nancy and her boyfriend, Ted Nickerson, try to locate the old bat. Gunman Dick “Capta..... Comments

From our friends at Inkwell Images, we’ve got a pair of fine cartoons starring Bud Fisher’s popular comic strip pair Mutt and Jeff. First up is the 1927 animated classic THE GLOBE TROTTERS, as “Prof. Mutt and Little Jeff” travel around the world in a dirigible, stopping at the North Pole (where they find the I. Gypem Realty Company already set up to mortgage igloos), Russia, where the Cossacks are selling their beards to a mattress company, Switzerland, where they make swiss cheese by mi..... Comments
